Serendip was the original name of Sri Lanka used by Arabic traders from which came the English ‘serendipity’ because the land was a happy chance discovery!

We picked up the most scenic routes across the country, along paddy fields, mango groves and forest and along the coast. Once you hit the highlands watch out for the spectacular sweep of the mountains and the sprawling tea gardens on mist-clad undulating slopes that stretch out as far as the eye can see.

From the famous cities of Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Polonnaruwa or Galle with their architectural past, dotted with forts, ruins, temples mixing the Hindu culture with the colonial past to the white sandy beaches of Trincomalee or Tangalle with the possibility of seeing whales. Sigiriya will allow you to stretch those legs if you are brave enough to storm the 5th century fortress on the top of the rock. Set on a plateau, the sacred city of Kandy will delight you with its central lake and relaxing views of the bluish green mountains all around and the serenity of the temple complex. Nestling amidst the rolling emerald hills of tea plantations, Nuwara Eliya, has a beautiful climate all year round. Let us not forget to explore two national parks – Minneriya National Park known for the herds of wild elephants and Yala National Park famous for leopards.
